How long was the non competition clause for?as in how long after you leave the company? they are usually not for more than a coupe of years, and in NY state to my knowledge, they will never stand in court.most of NYC courier companies started by someone taking a rolodex from their previous employee.i know ive worked at most courier companies in NYC i say do it,start your own sh*t,its hard but hey................... http://www.nycmassive.com/ --- On Mon, 2/8/10, Corey Hilliard <coreythecourier@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Corey Hilliard <coreythecourier@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [messengers] Canadian non-competition clauses? To: Cc: messengers@xxxxxxxxx Date: Monday, February 8, 2010, 5:10 PM Regardless of the reasons why you left the courier company, taking a recent employer's clients is often considered unethical in the business world. As Canada may have unique laws in these matters, you should find a lawyer to advise you pro bono (free). Maintenance of a separate business that competed with your previous employer at the same time you worked there will put you in a bad position if it is mentioned in court. Your best hope is that the non-compete gets thrown out. Otherwise you may have to pick a new job or city.
